Hi, I’m Taymoor. I recently moved to Vancouver to complete my pilot licenses. I originally started training in late 2022 at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (CYTZ), and flew a total of 33.9 hours on the Cessna 150/152. However, due to other academic & professional commitments, I decided to put my training on pause - until now.
I started this journal to document every step of my training, so I have a more detailed record than my logbook to look back on. Regardless of whether I am able to fly on a certain day or not, I hope to write a meaningful update every day documenting my progress.
First Flight Since 2023
I spent a while deciding which airport to complete my PPL training at, with Boundary Bay (CZBB), Pitt Meadows (CYPK) and Langley (CYNJ) being my top choices. I ultimately chose a school at CZBB that I felt would fit my requirements well. I also realized that the experience flying from CZBB, being one of Canada’s busiest airports (in terms of aircraft movements), would make me a more proficient pilot.
Yesterday, I went up for my first training flight since 2023. While I was originally scheduled for a local east flight to the practice area, my instructor decided that a circuit flight would be a better idea, due to wildfire-induced low visibility.

This was also my first flight on the Cessna 172. While it handled pretty similar to the 152, it definitely felt heavier. I will also need to get used to the higher V-speeds.
Overall, the flight went well. My instructor demonstrated the first circuit and then transferred controls over to me to practice my circuit procedures. The low visibility and new airspace made things a little tough, but overall, I am pretty satisfied with the flight. Muscle memory for things like turning, flying straight-and-level, and landing slowly started to kick in, and I have a better idea of my abilities compared to when I last flew.
If the visibility clears up, I should be practicing upper air work procedures in one of the practice areas on my next flight this Saturday.
